Central Park Hoodie x scale 0.8

centralparkhoodie mini

I've wanted to knit a Central Park Hoodie for ages, but never got to actually doing it. Then I had an idea to make a smaller model of it. So I knitted one for my daughter, using a highly sofisticated and scientific downsizing formula - switching to thinner yarn and smaller needles. So, instead of aran weight yarn and 5.5mm needles I used two strands of fingering weight yarn and 4.0mm needles. That scaled down the pattern to about 80% of the original. To decide which original size instructions to use, I just compared some Phildar kids pattern with the same gauge and chose the size that had the same number of stitches for the body.

Hihoissa meni vähän pieleen, niistä tuli aluksi aivan liian kapeat. Purin ne ja neuloin uudestaan vähän leveämpinä.

The only part where my system clearly did not work were the sleeves. They were way too narrow at first so I frogged them and knitted them again a bit wider.

This cardi has gotten a lot of use. It had quite a lot of pilling, which I took off and now it's like new again. I find that happens to merino yarn a lot. It pills once and then stabilizes.

Olemme molemmat oikein tyytyväisiä lopputulokseen

We are both very happy with the result!

Holiday, part II

ihana ilma

Oikein mukavaa kuitenkin. Hyvää inspiraatiota syysneuleiden miettimiseen. Ja villaneuleille on ollut myös kayttöä!

As you can imagine looking at the view, I´m no longer in sunny Spain. In Finland August looks like this. But it has been a lovely week nevertheless, and it only started raining today. But it has been really cold here. Good inspiration for Fall knitting! And using everything knitted!

comments: This is one of my favourite knits of all times. The bliss of the neverending garter stitch! Making up the details as you go. Elizabeth Zimmermann is a genius. The only thing I would do differently are the buttonholes: I would hide the in the i-cord edging, instead of making them when knitting the front. Well, who told me to decide that before finishing the jacket!? It wasn't Elizabeth for sure.

kommentit: Tämä on yksi kaikkien aikojen suosikkineuleistani. Elizabeth Zimmermann on nero. No ei ainakaan Elizabeth!

Tomorrow I'll show you some new WIPs and new socks!

Huomenna lupaan vilauttaa puikoilla olevia uutuuksia ja uusia sukkia. Lomalla ehtii neuloa!

Late for the party?

Tomato Red Cardi

pattern: Phildar enfants printemps-été 2007 gilet 8
yarn: katia merino 100% 7x50g, colour 27
needles: 3,5mm and 4,0mm

comments: Now this cardi would have fitted perfectly to the Fire theme of project spectrum but I did not finish it in time. But I’m very happy with the result! This yarn is very soft and has a lovely drape but it stretches a lot in the wash. Good thing this time I had knitted a swatch AND washed it.
I substituted the front and back p1k1 ribbing with the stitch pattern from Conwy socks (by Nancy Bush). I also knitted a button band for the whole lenght and not only in the upper part as in the original pattern (see below).
As I have said a million times before: I love Phildar patterns for children. So stylish!

Blue Hue Cardigan

blue hue cardigan 1

Hups, taisi tulla vähän tiukka malli...

Gee, this one seems to be a bit too tight for me....

blue hue cardigan 2

Luovutan.

Well I managed to close the first button, but I think the second one is totally impossible. I give up.

blue hue cardigan 3

No joo, onhan nuo raidat ihan kivoja.... :\

Whatever... the stripes are nice, though. :\

pattern: modified from a Phildar cardigan pattern
yarn: Lopo Xavier Phoebus (100% wool) in four different shades of blue and dark brown

comments: I'm kind of speechless. This was my oldest WIP, and finally I finished it. And it's lovely. :-)

kommentit: Olen jotenkin ihan sanaton. :-)
