Knitting with wild abandon...

... but not having any time (or energy) to blog about it. So I resume last two weeks in one flickr mosaic.

resuming last two weeks

Today it's my two year blogiversary! Yay! Have some cake!

I've been thinking about modifying the blog a bit, but haven't find the time yet. I think it doesn't make any sense just listing the FOs, with Ravelry and all (Oh! Ravelry! I could LIVE there!)... Let's see what happens.

Nice Christmas knitting to you all! Try to take it easy!

Tänään taitaa olla blogin 2-vuotispäivä! Jee!

(Ah! Ravelry! Voisin muuttaa sinne asumaan!)... Katsotaan mitä tästä seuraa...

Hyvää joulunalusneulontaa kaikille! Toivottavasti pystytte välttämään lahjapaniikkia!

tap.. tap.. is this thing on?

Hups, kylläpä aika on hujahtanut sitten viime postauksen... kaikenlaista uutta esiteltävää on:

Wheee - it has been a long time...! I have new things to show you:

Tweedy Spey Valley Socks

 tweedy spey valley socks

pattern: Spey Valley by Nancy Bush from Knitting on the Road
yarn: Regia Tweed 6-ply, colour 90, 125g.
needles: 3mm ebony dpns

comments: I changed to thicker yarn and needles in order to knit man's size socks. I casted on 63 sts (as in the pattern) and then decreased to 56 after the horizontal band.

During this blogging hiatus I have bought some new yarn...

psychedelic chevron scarf WIP
A psychedelic Chevron scarf in Wollmeise's (discontinued) 6-ply (in Poison Nr. 5 + Birkenrinde) . I casted on 72 sts as I wanted a wider scarf. Loving it so far!

Chevron-huivi! Vihdoinkin puikoilla. Lanka on Wollmeisen lopetettua 6-säikeistä villalankaa (väreinä Birkenrinde ja Poison Nr.5). Teen huivista vähän leveämmän version, silmukoita nyt 72. Tykkään, ainakin toistaiseksi.

one monkey
Monkey socks (These are practically finished. I only have to graft the last toe.) Great pattern, so easy to memorize.

Monkey-sukat. Nämä ovat käytännössä valmiit. Enää yksi kärki silmukoimatta.

Thanks for your wonderful comments on my Jamaica Baby blanket. The new owner was born just two days after the blanket arrived to her house!

Tuhannesti kiitos kaikille vauvapeitto-kommenteista. Peiton uusi omistaja syntyi pari päivää lahjan luovuttamisen jälkeen!

EDIT:
The wonderful Fleece Artist 3-ply Merino DK was bought from Knitty Noddy. I just checked the site to catch the link and couldn't help but notice that they had a new shipment of this stuff TODAY. 20 colours to choose from.....

Fleece Artistin Merino 3/6 on hankittu Knitty Noddysta (Annash:n vika!).

Jamaica Baby Blanket

It's done!

jamaica FO

pattern: Mitered Square Blanket in by Kay Gardiner and Ann Shayne
from Mason-Dixon Knitting, instructions for No-Sew Mitered Squares here
(I made the squares a bit smaller - 56 sts instead of 72)
size: about 80cm x 80cm
yarn: Katia Jamaica (100% cotton), colour 4009, 4 x 100g skeins; about 50g. of lime green cotton yarn by Tricots Brancal.
needles: 3.5 clover bamboo circ.

jamaica FO 1

jamaica FO 3

The border came out a bit too loose, but I couldn't be bothered to arrange it.

jamaica FO 2

Huomenna postiin! Vauva on kuulemma vielä mahassa, eli aikataulu piti!

I'll send it tomorrow by mail! I was informed today that the baby is still inside the belly, so the timing is perfect!

Yet another pair of knee high socks

trekking 167 knee highs

pattern: - (basic CO80 - decr. to 60 knee highs)
yarn: Zitron Trekking (XXL) 167, 125g.
needles: 2,25mm and 2mm dpns

comments: Loved the colours and the striping of this yarn! I should have used 2mm needles all the time, as the socks are a bit loose on the leg. In a straightforward knitting like this, I speed up a bit (wroooooom!) and knit looser than normally.

kommentit: Tykästyin kovasti langan väreihin ja raidoitukseen. Sukista tuli vähän liian löysät - ensi kerralla käytän 2mm:n puikkoja koko ajan (nyt käytin niitä vain sukan kärjessä). Kun neulon tällaista aivotonta ainaoikeaa, kiihdytän vauhtia turhankin paljon ja neulon usein tavallista löysempää.

Lime it is!

starting lime border

Thanks for helping me choose the colour for the border!

Kiitos avusta värin valinnassa.

Ivan-approved wonky square baby blanket WIP

These are some wonky squares! But Iván (the Terrible) approves.

Kyllä kuviot ovat aika vonksallaan! Mutta Iivana Julma hyväksyy mallin.

Too much randomness

jamaica blanket - forget spontaneity

Jamaica baby blanket was getting totally out of control: knitting no-sew mitered squares from self-striping yarn really has it's downside. You never know what's coming out of the skein. So today I took a more critical look on the finished squares and decided to rip couple of them. Then I arranged the ripped yarn to a new position and labeled it, so that now I know what I'm getting.

jamaica blanket rearranged

I'm thinking of doing a garter stitch border in contrasting colour. (The candidates are laying on the right). Which one would you prefer? I'm thinking of the lime green right now, but I haven't made up my mind yet.

My Socktober isn't finished yet. I have some new sock FOs - hope to show them during this long weekend! Yay!

Minun sukkakuuni ei ole vielä ohi. Valmiita sukkia on (ihan sukkaparejakin). Yritän esitellä niitä pitkän viikonlopun aikana.
