Green Leaves Shawl

pattern: A simple lace shawl with a birch pattern from www.ihanitse.com,
yarn: Laceweight Pure Wool from Handpaintedyarn.com, colour Apple Green, 170g
finished size: 60cm X 220cm
needles: 3mm



comments: I adapted the leave pattern and made it a bit wider. I made 11 repeats of the 12 stiches wide pattern, plus 7 stiches of moss stich for the edges.
I run out of pins when attatching the shawl to the blocking board, thus the scalloped edges. This really is no refined shawl, with a proper edge pattern and all, it's more like a giant swatch!
The yarn is not the softest one you can find, but I really like the subtle vatiation of colour and thickness.

kommentit: tein koivunlehtikuviosta hieman ohjeessa neuvottua leveämmän (12 silmukkaa) ja tein siitä 11 toistoa. Reunat tein kuten ohjeessa.
Minulta lopuivat nuppineulat kesken, enkä saanut reunoista suoria kun pingoitin huivin. Mutta olin kiinnittänyt neulat tasaisin välimatkoin, eikä se nyt niin vaivaa.
Tämä on tosiaan aika simppeli huivi, ei mitään erillisiä ohjeita reunuksen tekemiseen tms. Vähän niinkuin valtaisa mallitilkku!
Lanka ei ole maailman pehmeintä, mutta ihan ok. Parasta siinä on hienoinen värin ja langan paksuuden vaihtelu.

FO Alert!

Päätin eilen että vihreä koivunlehtishaali on riittävän pitkä ja päättelin silmukat. Se on parhaillaan pingoittumassa rakennuseristelevyn päällä. Pituutta tulikin 2,20 metria eli onneksi päätin lopettaa neulomisen! Toivottavasti huomenna pääsen esittelemään kuvia valmiista huivista.

Yesterday I decided that the Green Leaves Shawl is finished and casted off. It is being blocked right now. I just got the idea of the total lenght when pinning it to the blocking board, and noticed that it had grown to a total of 2,20m! Good idea to have casted off...
I hope to have an opportunity to show you pictures of the finished shawl tomorrow...

Red Knee High Socks

pattern: "letit pitkin säärtä" from "Sukkasillaan", a Finnish Sock Book.
yarn: Novita Nalle 170g, (no idea of the colour, as the yarn was bought from the factory shop and had no label).
needles: 2,5mm dpns



kommentit: Nämä sukat olivat aika tuskaiset neuloa. Aloitin ne jo aikoja sitten, ja välillä ne jäivät jäähylle. Tämä keväällä Lauttasaaresta ostamani Nalle-pussilanka on aika nihkeää neulottavaa ja mielestäni 2,5mm:n puikot ovat kyllä liian ohuet tälle langalle. Silmukat eivät todellakaan sutjakasti liu'u puikoilla niinkuin pitäisi. Ja nuo loppumattomat palmikot (siis mitkä letit?!!!!)

Valmiit sukat ovat kuitenkin aika ihanat. Istuvat todella napakasti, ja tekevät sääristä kuin sääristä sutjakat! Ja niissä on tosiaan joulufiilistä, ja eihän jouluun olekaan enää kuin puoli vuotta! :-D

comments: these socks were quite tedious to knit. The yarn is not very nice, and the needles were slightly too small, so the stitches did not slip as smoothly as they should. And the neverending cables...
Anyway, I really do like the finished socks! They have a snug fit and really scream "Christmas"! (Yes they are part of my "Really Early Christmas Knitting Mission").

Gone Trekking

Aloitin Trekking 106:sta simppelit ribbisukat uusilla 2,25mm:n puikoilla.

I started knitting some basic ribbed socks with my Trekking 106, using my new 2,25mm needles.



Jonkin aikaa neulottuani totesin että niistä oli tulossa liian tiukat tulevalle käyttäjälle (lahjaksi nämäkin, itse en ole vielä toipunut 80-luvun pastellivärikaudestani. Yliannostus oli roima). Ja väritkin näyttivät jotenkin pliisuilta. Siis purkuun.

After a while I noticed that they were going to be too tight for the person they are for (not me - I OD:d on pastel colours in the 80's and haven't recovered yet). And the colours seemed like too shy, even for pastel colours. So I decided to rip.



Päätin vaihtaa mallia, ja tehdä Jaywalkerit. Jos ohjeesta lukee vain joka toisen rivin ja tekee alkuresorin omalle käsialalleen liian isoilla puikoilla, ne näyttävät tältä:

I decided to knit Jaywalkers instead. If you read only every other line of the pattern AND do the ribbing with too large needles, they will look like this:
(I recommend testing this variation of the pattern late friday night, after a loooong week).



No niin... nyt näyttääkin jo vähän paremmalta... tein resorin 2mm:n puikoilla ja muuten käytän 2,5mm:n puikkoja. Ja muistin jopa tehdä ne ainaoikein neulotut kierrokset kavennus- ja levennyskierrosten väliin! Hyvä minä!

Well, now we are getting somewhere... I knitted the ribbing with 2mm needles (much neater) and use 2,5mm needles for the rest of the sock. I even included the knitted rows between the inc/dec rows of the pattern! Good for me!

Mirror mirror on the wall, who's the fairest of us all?

Sain vihdoinkin kauan himoitsemaani Trekking-sukkalankaa! Pistin tilauksen tällä kertaa Wollkontor nimiseen putiikkiin. Vähän jouduin odottelemaan (tuo vaalein väri 106 oli ilmeisesti varastosta loppu) mutta sain vaivanpalkaksi yhden ilmaisen kerän mukaan! Ei harmittanut yhtään!

I got some Trekking sock yarn from Wollkontor in Germany! It took quite long (they seemed to have some difficulties finding the colour 106) but to compensate for the wait they sent me an extra ball, free of charge. I was pleased!



Ostin myös yhden kerän Fortissima-lankaa. Minulla jäi näistä sukista melkein kolmannes kerästä yli, ja ajattelin että ostamalla yhden lisää, itse asiassa säästän: saan varmaan näistä kaksi paria sukkia! (Tiukkaa neulojan logiikkaa!)

I also bought one ball of Fortissima Yarn. I had some leftover yarn from these socks, and I thought that bying one more I could actually save - making two pairs of socks! (Gee - that's knitter's logic!)
