Logcabin Calling

Tänään yllättäen UFO-kasan pohjalla koomassa ollut hirsimökkitekniikkalla tehty puuvillainen peitto kutsui minut kimppuunsa. Sehän onkin viittävaille valmis, ja kun se on aloitettu jo vuosia sitten niin pitäähän sen kutsua kuunnella. Saisinkohan sen huomiseen valmiiksi....?

All of a sudden an almost finished logcabin blanket started to call my name, from the bottom of the UFO pile. And as it is my oldest UFO - I should not ignore such attention, shouldn't I? Maybe I could finish it by tomorrow?...

Half Pairs of Socks

Vihreä lehtishaali on edennyt aika hyvää vauhtia. Sillä on mittaa venyttämättä 70cm, ja lankaa on mennyt varmaan jotain 80grammaa. Lankaa on vielä toinen 100 gramman vyyhti korkkaamatta. Jos ei pinna pala, aion neuloa sitä niin kauan kuin lankaa riittää. Eli eiköhän siitä ainakin parimetrinen liehuke tule.

The applegreen leaves shawl has grown quite a bit. Now it measures (without any stretching) about 70 cm, and I have used about 80 g. of the yarn. I have another 100g. skein of the same yarn and I'm going to keep on knitting until I run out of yarn. (If I don't run out of patience first!) It will be over two meters worth of swawl.

Keskeneräisille sukille kuuluu seuraavaa:

Mamluke-sukat ottivat spurtin, joka lopahti lyhyeen, kun lila lanka loppui kesken. Sitä on kyllä lisää, se vain on aika kaukana, Suomessa. Odottelen pikalähetystä.
Ensimmäinen on jo valmiina, ja se on mielestäni aika kiva. Sukat ovat miesten kokoa 42. Näitä voisi tehtailla eri väriyhdistelmissä etnovaikutteisiksi kotitossuiksi vaikka joululahjaksi kaikille miespuolisille tutuille? (Tiedän - toisessa sukassa on VIRHE. Häiritseekö se? Kyllä! Aionko korjata sen -en todellakaan!)

I got busy with the Mamluke socks, but I run out of (violet) yarn. Luckily enough there's more of it, but it is far away in Finland. SO now I have to wait for a special delivery. I quite like these socks. These are man's size 42. I could do different colour combination and get all my male family members to have ethnic feet next Christmas... (I know - there is a MISTAKE in the sock number two. Does it bother me - yes! Am I going to fix it - no way!)



Punaiset polvisukat (ohje sukkasillaan kirjasta mukaillen) ovat melkein samassa pisteessä. Yksi valmis, toinen uupuu. Lankaa on kyllä riittävästi, mutta se (Novita Nalle) tökkii aika pahasti. Sukka on jäykkä kuin tönkkösuolattu silli.

Red Knee High Socks are at the same point: one is done and the other one is missing. Here I do have enough yarn left, but it is quite a bad yarn (Novita Nalle) and the needle size is a bit too small. So I have only one word for the finished fabric. STIFF.

What a week!

Huhhuh! Takana on aikamoinen viikko, siihen kuului esim. junalla matkustelua noin 15 tunnin verran, sekä pari hotellissa nukuttua yötä. Seuranani matkusti vihreä koivunlehtikuvioinen huivi, joka kuvassa rentoutuu Lissabonissa hotellin ikkunalaudalla.

Phew! Last week was really something... I counted a total of 15 hours of traveling by train, and two hotel nights. My travel accompanion was the green leaves shawl, which you can see in the picture, lounging by the hotel window in Lisbon.



Viikonloppuna olenkin vaihteeksi keskittynyt siniraidalliseen villatakkiin (jonka kausi alkaa auttamattomasti olla takanapäin - katsokaa vaikka sääennustusta!)
Hihat ovat jo valmiina, ja varmaan olisi takakappalekin, jos en olisi laskenut sen pituutta väärin ja joutunut purkamaan tänä aamuna ainakin 15 cm. (Hihaistutuksen kohdalla olisi ihan kiva saada raidat sattumaan kohdalleen - eikö?!)

During the weekend I have concentrated on my blue hue cardigan (I have to hurry up if I want to use it before summer - take a look at the weather forecast!)
The sleeves are finished and probably I could finish the back hadn't I miscalculated the lenght of the body and had to rip at least 6 inches. (I mean it would be convenient to match the stripes on the sleeves and the body, wouldn't it?!)

Swatching

Ainoa aikaansaannokseni sitten viime postauksen ovat nämä mallitilkut handpaintedyarnin langoista.

Only thing I have managed to do since my last post are these swatches of handpaintedyarn.



Tämä paksu merinolanka on vähän liian kirjavaa minun makuuni. Lanka on kyllä ihanaisen pehmeää. Siitä tulisi kiva kaulahuivi. Siis ensi talveksi. Tai jotain tämän tyyppistä. Mallitilkku on muuten neulottu kutosen puikoilla.

This 6-ply menino is a bit too variegated for my taste. But the yarn is wonderfully soft, and it would make a nice scarf, for next winter... or something like this? (The swatch was knitted with 6mm needles)



Tämä näyttää juuri siltä kuin kuvittelinkin. Perheen pienelle neidille sopivan karkkista. Puikot 5,5mm.

Ja tässä onkin jo selvästi malli haussa... menenkin tästä luomaan 7+(11x12)+1+7=147 silmukkaa. Kolmosen puikoilla! Tsau!

And here we are already searching for a pattern... I'm off to cast on 7+(11x12)+1+7=147 stitches, with 3mm needles. Bye!

Loads of Good Stuff

Osoitin huomattavaa luonteenlujuutta ja ryntäsin töistä kotiin vain tuntia normaalia aikaisemmin. Ja sielläpä se odotteli se ihana paketti...
Katsotaanpa mitä sieltä löytyi:

Laceweight Pure Wool, colour Apple Green

Ihana väri. Hapokas omenanvihreä. Tästä ajattelin tehdä sellaisen koivunlehtishaalin. Suorakulmaisen ja aika simppelin. Tarkoittaakohan tämä sitä että olen virallisesti toipunut tästä urakasta?
En muuten ole mikään pitsityyppi, mutta luulen että tuo sähäkkä väri antaa malliin sopivasti särmää.

Lovely colour, like a lettuce lit from inside (should those exist). This is destined to be a simple lace shawl with a birch pattern. I'm not much of a lace person, but I think that the acid colour will give it a nice touch. This must mean that I have officially recovered from this project!

Pure Merino Wool Bulky Six ply - Velvet Grapes (on the left)

Luvassa vasemmallaa siis löytyy tämä ihanuus. Koko setin suosikki. Aivan uskomattoman pehmeä lanka ja väritkään eivät ole hullummat. Tätä kun hypistelee niin sitä melkein toivoo että olisikin talvi tulossa kesän sijasta, jotta voisi vaan kuljeskella paksuissa villapaidoissa. Minulla on jo toinen väri kiikarissa. Paris Night - sekoitus mustaa ja tummansinistä ja harmaata... sitä on varmaan jossain vaiheessa tilattava. Tätä väriä tilasin vain 200 grammaa, halusin kokeilla minkälaista lanka on. Ja olenkin miettinyt mistä saisi sopivaa paksua lankaa kohtuuhinnalla joihinkin Loop-d-Loopin ohjeisiin, ja tämä voisi olla varteenotettava ehdokas.

Now this one really won my heart. And I'm not usually into bulky wool. But this yarn is so wonderfully soft that you almost hope that it would be winter soon, to be able to wear a sweater knitted with it. I already have another colour in mind - Paris Night. Actually I'm obsessed with the colour - it seems to be a mix of black and very dark greys and blues. This time I only ordered 200g, as I wanted to try the yarn out first and I have been searching for a thicker yarn to try out some of the patterns from Loop-d-loop, and this might just be it...

Tässä on kivat värit (kuvassa keskellä). Suunnitelmissa on ehkä Rose (Debbie Bliss number Seven - kirjasta) perheen parhaimmin pukeutuvalle pikkuneidille. Ostin tuon kirjan kun ensi kertaa eksyin handpaintedyarn-sivuille. Olin nimittäin ymmärtävinäni (tai lukenut jostain) että heidän käsintehty lankansa on vastaavaa kuin Manos del Uruguay, joka taas on samaa kuin Debbie Blissin Maya tai Soho. Ja kun Debbie Blissin lanka lopetettiin , tilasin hädissäni valmiiksi tuon kirjan, ennenkuin se katoaa markkinoilta. (Ja samalla keikalla ostin nuo pari kerää Cashmerino Arania tarjouksesta)

Lovely colours. This yarn may become Rose, from Debbie Bliss book Seven. I bought the book when I discovered the handpaintedyarn site. As I gathered that their handspun yarn is very similar to Manos del Uruguay yarn, which on the other hand should be equal to Debbie Bliss Maya or Soho. And as it was discontinued, I was worried not to be able to get the book later on. At the same time I bought the Debbie Bliss Cashmerino Aran in the picture (for the trimming).



Kaikenkaikkiaan olen todella tyytyväinen ostoksiini ja palveluun. Lähetys tuli tosi nopeasti perille ja langat olivat juuri sellaisia miltä ne sivuilla näyttivät. Kun nyt vaan ilmat viilenisi niin voisi pistää lisätilausta menemään! ;-)

Altogether, I'm very pleased with the yarn and the service. Now I just have to wait for the weather to get cooler again, to buy some more bulky wool!
