Sugarplum Pullover

sugarplum

pattern: Sugarplum Pullover by Véronik Avery in Handknit Holidays
yarn: Lopo Xavier Phoebus 300 g. of main colour (steel gray), a little of each: dark green, light green, orange, copper, hot pink, dark red, silver gray and medium blue.
needles: 3mm, 3,5mm and 4mm circular (and dpns for the sleeves)

comments: Finally finished! I'm quite happy with the result, even though I usually do not use such close fitting sweaters. The pattern has a 50's feel in it with the cropped sleeves. The fair isle part was rather easy, there's only one row where you have to use three colours at the same time. New techniques for me were the tubular cast-on and cast-off. Tubular cast-on isn't all that complicated, but the cast-off - man, if there ever was a trickier thing invented - weaving the stitches with a weaving needle and meters of yarn, which then starts to get all twisted and tangled and need I tell you more. (Luckily I had Montse Stanleys Knitter's Handbook to help me, I couldn't have managed without illustrated instructions) Of course in the end all the fuss pays off and the finished edge is quite neat. I'm really fond of knitting in the round, I love the fact of not having to set in sleeves and sewing the seams.

kommentit: Vihdoinkin valmista! Olen oikein tyytyväinen lopputulokseen, vaikka en yleensä näin napakasti istuvia paitoja käytäkään. Malli on vähän tuollainen 50-lukulainen alipitkine hihoineen. En olisi pärjännyt kirjan ohjeilla, katsoin mallia Montse Stanleyn opuksesta, jossa tekniikka selitetään kuvien kera. Lopputulos on kuitenkin aika siisti ja joustava reuna. (Josta olisi tosin voinut tulla hieman napakampi). Olen varsin ihastunut tähän suljettuna neuleena tekemiseen, ihanaa kun ei tarvitse sivusaumojen ja hihankiinnitysten kanssa sählätä.

Aloitin eilen uuden neuleen! Pojalle Phildarin ohjeella neuletakki. Ohje on viime vuoden syksyn lehdestä ja lankana on vihreä Isoveli. Ihanaa neuloa vaihteeksi paksummalla langalla: takakappale on jo puolessavälissä.

I started a new project yesterday! A Phildar jacket for my son. I already have half of the back piece done - you have to love knitting with thicker needles every once in a while!

Todella hyvännäköinen neule! Ihanaa nähdä tuollainen uudenlainen sovellutus perinteisestä kaarrokeneuleesta, kun on niukkaa mallia.

What a beautiful pullover! I've never thought of this style of fairisle as sexy, but it's the fit that does it. It's perfect.

Wow! That sweater looks great. I am starting this sweater myself and I was wondering if you had any difficulties with it. I noticed that there is an error with the yardage of the yarn so it just made me nervous about the rest of the pattern. Let me know what you think.

That turned out fantastic! I like the fit, too. You're right, it's up-to-date AND has a vintage feel to it all at the same time.
The socks in your last post were lovely, as well.
Sweet sweater for your son. I'm curious to see what color of yarn you're using.

Onpa muuten kaunis pusero. Nuo siniset reunat on jostain syystä minun mielestäni hirveän viehättävät.

Valtavan kaunis neule. Tasapainoisen näköinen lopputulos. Avara kaula-aukko, 3/4 -hihat ja hillityn harmaa pohjaväri keventävät ja rauhoittavat rikkaan värikästä kirjoneulosta. Kaunis malli ja hieno toteutus! Sulla on pettämätön tyylitaju:D

Kiitos kaikille kehuista! Olen tosi otettu! :-)

Thanks for your nice compliments on my sweater! You are so very kind! :-)

jody:
I've actually been visiting your blog, trying to catch a glimpse of this project in progress :-).... The yarn I used is very different from the yarn in the pattern. I think this one is quite similar to Koigu Kersti, texture-wise (dois it called crepe?). Bur I think that this pattern works with many types of yarn.

Lavendersheep:
If you are referring to errors in the pattern, I didn't find any. But I do think the sizing is very small. I haven't checked my gauge in the finished sweater (in swatches it matched the pattern) and due to some confusion between inches and centimeters, I opted for the 40" size (my measurements are more like 37") and there is almost no ease at all!

Siri:
you can see the yarn for my son's sweater on the left in the photo - it's a kind of military green... the colour choise is a bit dull, but I happened to have this yarn in stash...

Outi:
Minakin pidän noista reunoista, niitä voisi soveltaa johonkin muuhunkin malliin.. (vaikka sillon pitäisi taas tehdä tuo kamalan monimutkainen päättely...)

Marsvin:
hehe - ai tasainen käsiala! Ehkä minussa asuu pieni neulekone! :-D

Kaisakaisa:
oho mikä analyysi! Ihan punastun... :-)

I've had my eye on this swetaer for awhile, it seems like a great first fair-isle project. Your version turned out absolutely gorgeous! I think the fit is fantastic.

Täytyy sanoa, että neule näyttää päälläsi jopa hienommalta kuin ohjeen kuvassa, jonka julkaisit aiemmin. Värit ovat mahtavat, eivät missään tapauksessa liian räikeät!

Kaarrokeneuleesi on todella kaunis, nurjat silmukat kuvion keskellä tekevät kuviosta entistäkin mielenkiintoisemman.

Täytyypä kaivaa Phildarit jälleen esille kirjahyllystä ja katsoa uudemman kerran poikien malleja.
