Melons!

Kyllästyin odottelemaan uusia eebenpuisia pyöröjä rikkinäisten tilalle ja aloitin Melon Pattern-shaalin (kirjasta Victorian Lace Today) vanhoilla addeillani.*)

I got tired of waiting the replacement of the broken ebony circular and started the Melon Pattern Shawl from Victorian Lace Today with my old metallic addis.*)

melon stitches

I thought I had enough stitches for a shawl, but those melon stithes really pull the fabric tight, so it's looking more like a wide scarf really. Let's see what will become of it after blocking. (But there are quite a few melon stitches left to do before that....)

*) Olen harkinnut bambupyöröpuikkojen hankkimista pitsineuleita varten. Olisiko jollain suosituksia? Mitkä sopisivat parhaiten kyseiseen tarkoitukseen? Addin bambupyöröt? Cloverit? Otan kiitollisena kaikki vinkit vastaan!

*) I'm thinking of getting some bamboo circulars for lace - I'd apreciate your recommendations! Which are more adequate - addi bamboos? clover bamboos? Are there some pointy circular needles with a nice, flexible cord I should know about?

Love the color you're using. My favorite needles for lace are Inox (you can see a picture of them on my blog under category needles). The join on them is amazing-great for moving around lace stitches.

Depending on the needle size you are looking for, you may have to go with something other than bamboo. Addi's bamboo circulars (Addi Natura) start at size 3mm only. Not sure about Clover.

But Skacel is launching a new kind of Addi circulars specifically for lace. They are in metal and with pointier tips than their other models. Here in California they'll hit the stores in a few weeks.

If you hate metal, Holz und Stein (Germany) makes circular in different kinds of woods starting at size 2.5mm, but they are hard to come by, at least in the States. You may have better luck in Europe.

I agree with Brooke-- Inox circular needles are wonderful for lace. I use them all the time myself for lace and all sorts of other knitting. I especially like the grey Teflon-coated needles for a surface that's slippery, but not too much so.

Your melon scarf is looking great so far!

Sain hyvät naurut otsikosta, kunnes tajusin, että tämähän olikin neuleblogi ja melonit tarkoittivat neuletta ;D

Sori, huono hjuumori :-|

Addin bambupyöröt olisivat kärjiltään hyvät, mutta ohuenohut lanka tarttuu siiman liitoskohdan koloon todella sopivasti. En suosittele ohuille langoille!

i got my hands on those knitpicks needles and use them for my paisley shawl - i love them. so pointy and the join is super smooth.

i've also used addi bamboos and they are quite pointy, but the join is not as good as with the turbos, unfortunately.

Mulla on Susannes-merkkisiä bambupyöröjö.

i prefer addi bamboos over other bamboo needles -- the join is smoother.

but (echoing what brooke wrote) i've heard great things about inox and plan to try them on a lace project soon

I love my addi naturas, well, at least the one pair I have. But I also quite like clover circulars, although I usually take sandpaper to the ends to sharpen up the points. If you use fine sandpaper to smooth it afterwards, you can get the exact point you want. Plus, clovers are much cheaper! but I like knitpicks too, however, I think bamboos are easier for lace. not as slippery.

Piti tulla nyt ihan vartavasten vierailulle kommenttia kirjoittaakseni. Olen muutamaan kertaan vieraillut blogissasi ihailemassa neulomuksiasi ja viimeyönä pääsit uneeni. Huusin miehelleni (en todellakaan tiedä miksi) että 100% pura lana tarkoittaa PUUVILLAA, VAIN PUUVILLAA!! Et VOI tehdä niitä sukkia lampaanvillasta! *lol*

Puikoista kommentoin sen verran, että vain Addin bambuissa olen tavannut oikeasti letkeän ja taipuisan letkun, muissa on kovin tankea, siksi annan ääneni Addeille.

i love addi naturas for all lace knitting...and i have no problem at all with the join.

the other needles that i am very fond of...but they are not very well known at all are profi bamboo.

i just love love love these for lace knitting. the bamboo seems to feel both smoother and pointer...and although the cable is the old fashioned cable - the join is smooth.

your melon shawl is looking great. Me too! I would choose addi over clover. It's definitely a lot smoother to work with.

I like your scarf very much. You have some beautiful knits! My favorite for lace is the inox because they have sharp points, but I like my addi's also. I have had trouble with bamboo points splitting on me even after paying a lot of money for them!
