It's a shawl! It's a stole! It's a blanket?

Leaf and Trellis Shawl

leaf and trellis III

pattern: Large Rectangle in Leaf and Trellis pattern by Jane Sowerby
from Victorian Lace Today
yarn: Pirtin Kehräämö Kampalanka 90 TEX x 3, colour 4 (undyed dark brown), 4 x 100g
needles: 4mm ebony circ + 4mm dpns for the border

leaf and trellis IV

It took me years to get this one done. If I remember correctly, I knitted the center panel during two different summer vacations in Finland. Then it always just got abandoned in my knitting basket for month and months. But a couple of weeks ago, I just decided to finish it. I had this vision that it would be really beautiful and warm... which took quite an amount of imagination as is the case with many lace projects.

struggle with the shawl border

The border seemed to take forever and forever...

Reunapitsin neulominen vei ikuisuuden...

lace row counting

And then I lost my row counter and have to use a more archaic method. But I did not give up.

Ja jossain vaiheessa sohva söi kerroslaskimenkin ja piti siirtyä perinteiseen metodiin. Mutta en antanut periksi!

blocking the beast

And then, finally, I got to block it and I knew I had been right! It came out very large, about 75cm x 220cm, but light and warm. Rustic luxe, as I was told in an Ravelry comment. Couldn't put it better myself.

leaf and trellis II

Now we are very pleased with ourselves.

Nyt olemme hyvin muikeina.

I think it is fabulous, and I love the contrast between the tweedy yarn and the lace pattern.

It's absolutely gorgeous. Rustic luxe is the perfect way to describe it. I love shawls that have that "earthiness" to them. Not so fancy or dainty, more hearty and real. I admire you for sticking with it and getting it done!

Upea on! Tuollaisen kärsivällisen neulomisen jälkeen voittajaolo on erittäin ansaittu.

Se on Hieno! Kyllä kannatti olla sinnikäs, eikö!? Mulla on ihan samanlainen rivilaskuri kuin sullakin ;D Paitsi silloin kun käytän hienoa antiikkista helmitauluani.
Ihana ilme tuossa vikassa kuvassa ;D Muikeaa indeed!

it's a beautiful thing, that's for sure! well done! also, you have reminded me that i bought some super rustic, organic, smelly, tweedy laceweight yarn to make this same pattern.

Todella upea!

this looks great -- and you will be so happy you have it this winter! I'll go "fave" it on Ravelry ... and I too have shawls that are taking forever :)

PS love the "notes" -- I have so many WIPs and little notebooks around that for sanity sake I've now just started marking rows on the pattern -- so at least I can find where I last left off ...

Mieletön!
Monessakin mielessä. On mielettömän kaunis ja mielettömän valtava.
Näyttävä. Hieno. Upea.
