A little knitting and some shopping

Neulerintamalla ei mitään uutta: Print O'the Wave etenee hitaasti. Kohta on ensimmäinen 50 gramman vyyhti lankaa mennyt. Olisinpa jo puolessavälissä!

No news from the knitting front. Print O'the Wave is going slowly. I'm about to finish my first 50 gr. of yarn. Wish I were halfway done already!



Noudatan kovaa itsekuria, eli mitään uusia neuleita ei saa aloittaa kunnes huivi on valmis. Ainoastaan viimeistely on sallittua! Kävinpä ostamassa napit sekä phildar neuletakkiin että blissful-takkiin. (En tiedä miksi sitä enää kutsun sillä nimellä, alkuperäisestä mallista ei enää ole juuri mitään jäljellä.)

I have decided not to start anything new until the stole is done. But finishing old WIPs is ok. So I went to shop for some buttons for the phildar cardigan and the modified blissful jacket. (I don't know why I insist calling it blissful jacket as what is actually left from the original pattern is the shaping, nothing else!)




Miten onnistuinkin saamaan kuvat, joissa lankojen väri toistuu juuri oikein! Silkkaa tuuria!
I don't know how I managed to reproduce the yarn colours perfectly this time! Pure luck!

Shoppailurintamalla olen myös sortunut uunituoreisiin lehtiin! Ja Saksasta on tulossa paketti - olihan minun pakko tilata 2,5mm:n pyöröaddit huivia varten. Jos niistä saisi hommaan vähän turboboostia. Ja eihän nyt yksien puikkojen takia voi postimaksuja maksaa eli sieltä on tulossa muutamia ihania (toivottavasti) sukkalankoja! Ja maailman ylellisimmät sukkapuikot?

I also had to order this brand new magazine. And there is a little something coming my way from Germany. I just had to get me some 2,5mm circular addis for the stole - I hope they get me in the turboboost knitting mode. And obviously I had to order some delicious sock yarn, too - to economize the shipping costs.

A Good Plan

Aloita megalomaaninen pitsineuleprojekti, mielellään mahdollisimman ohuella langalla ja hyvin ohuilla puikoilla. Neulo sitä kuin lanka huomenna maailmasta loppuisi. Totea että tuntien freneettisen neulontasession jälkeen olet edennyt noin kaksi senttiä. Anna epäilyksen ja negatiivisten ajatusten vallata mielesi.

Start a megalomaniac lace project using the finest yarn with the thinnest needles. Knit as if the extinction of yarn in the world would happen tomorrow. Note that after hours of frenetic knitting, you only get two centimeters done. Fill your mind with doubts and negative thoughts.

Kaiva laatikon pohjalta ryppyinen, tummanpunainen mytty. Esimetkiksi kiva huivi jota olet neulonut kesälomalla. Se tuo mieleesi rantalaiturin liplatuksen ja sen miten mukavaa on neuloa päivänvalossa. Totea että huivi tuntuu ihanan pehmeältä. Kastele se ja pingota niin että soi.

Find a crumply piece of knitting from the back of a drawer. For example a nice scarf you knitted on your summer holiday, but then didn't block. Let it remind you of summer and about how nice it is to knit in daylight. Feel the softness of the yarn. Block the scarf.

Napsi sata nuppineulaa irti kuivasta neuleesta ja totea että pitsi todellakin on neuleiden ruma anganpoikanen. Pitsineule toimii. Tyytyväisenä lopputulokseen vie huivi kävelylle. Mene katsomaan Atlantin aaltoja ja muista mikä ensimmäisen Print O'the Wave mallin tekijöitä inspiroi. Palaa megalomaanisen projektin pariin uutta intoa täynnä.

Take out the pins and state that lace knitting truly is The Ugly Duckling of all knitted goods. Lace is nice. Happy with the result, take the scarf to see the Atlantic Ocean and be reminded of what inspired the people who first started with the Print O'the Wave pattern. Return to your megalomaniac project, filled with new enthusiasm.

kommentit: kantapää sekä kärkikavennukset olivat hyvin mielenkiintoiset. Tämä kantapää pääsisi todella oikeuksiinsa puukengissä, niinpä taidankin lähettää nämä yhdelle puukkareita käyttävälle ystävälleni Pariisiin.

comments: the toe and the heel were really interesting. I really got some serious kicks out of the heel detail. I think they deserve to be worn with clogs, so I will send them to a friend of mine who does.

Can you hear the Waves yet?

Print O'the Wave Stole on edistynyt. Hitaasti mutta varmasti. Tämä ei todellakaan ole mitään rentoa TV:n katselu neulomista. TV:n kuuntelu sujuu kyllä ihan hyvin.

Kaksi mallikertaa on valmiina. Enää 18 jäljellä. No niin, nyt voidaankin hyperventiloida hetki.

I have some progress with the Print O'the Wave Stole. It goes slow but steady. This is definively not your relaxing TV-knitting. But you can still listen to the movies!

I have finished two pattern repeats. Only 18 to go. Ok, now I will hyperventilate for a minute.

New Magazines!

Eilen tuli tuplasti lehtiä: uusi Moda sekä Interweave Knits. Ensimmäisestä ei sen enempää, en halua tässä pahoittaa kenenkään mieltä. Ihmettelen vain miksi kanteen on pitänyt laittaa kaikkein pahimmat tekeleet: sieltä löytyy iso kalaverkkoon tarttunut nainen sekä esimerkki siitä mitä itseraidoittuvasta langasta ei pidä lähteä tekemään.

Interweave Knitsin talvinumerosta puikoille löytävät ainakin sievät sukat (Mona Schmidtin Embossed Leaves Socks). Ja ehkä Annie Modesittin Bi-color Cables. Se ei oikein ole minun tyyliseni, mutta en voi vastustaa neuleita joissa rakenne on näin hyvin suunniteltu. Miksiköhän? ;)

Yesterday the mailman had a double surprise for me. I received the Finnish Moda-magazine and Interweave Knits. In the Interweave Knits I set my eyes in the Embossed Leaves socks, they were quite cute. And I think I will not be able to resist Bi-color Cables by Annie Modesitt. I'm such a sucker for a good structure! ;)





Täällä lehtien tuleminen on suuri tapaus, koska en niitä pääse muuten missään selailemaan. Ja Modan eduksi täytyy sanoa että se tulee todella nopeasti, joskus saan lehden ennen ilmestymispäivää. Tällä kertaa IK yllätti iloisesti: matka valtameren yli kesti vain kolme viikkoa. Joskun on tuntunut siltä että olisi kannattanut lähettää lehti pullopostissa niin se tulisi nopeammin perille!

Receiving knitting magazines is a big deal for me here, because I have no other opportunity to get my hands on them. The Moda magazine always gets here really quickly, and this time IK only took three weeks. There have been times that it would have been better if they had just popped it in a bottle - it would arrive sooner floating across the ocean!

PS. Sukat ovat valmiit. Kuvia pian. Meinasin ottaa ne töihin ja napata kuvat lounastauolla, mutta onneksi unohdin ne kotiin.... ehkä omien jalkojen valokuvaaminen saattaisi auheuttaa turhaa hilpeyttä toimistossa.

PS. I finished the Rib and Cable Socks. Photos soon. I was about to bring them to the office and take some pictures in my lunch break, but I left the poor things at home. Maybe it is better that way, people in the office just might find it a bit weird if they saw me photographing my own feet...
