I did it!

Eilen vihdoinkin koitti se ikimuistoinen hetki: sain Print O'the Waven valmiiksi! Valitettavasti neuloin viimeiset silmukat sairaalassa, jossa olin pitämässä seuraa äkillisesti sairastuneelle perheenjäsenelle. Eli suunnittelemani shamppanjapullojen korkkien poksauttelu ja yleinen hysteria jäi nyt kokematta. Onneksi toipuminen sujuu hyvin!

Olin jo viime viikolla hankkinut tällaisen seinäeristelevyn, josta tein tee-se-itse pingotusalustan. Piirsin siihen apuviivat pysty- ja vaakasuuntaan 5cm:n välein. Se oli loistava idea, niistä oli korvaamaton apu kun asettelin märkää huivia mittoihin.

Yesterday was the big day: I finally finished knitting the Print O'the Wave Stole! I had pictured a big party: champagne bottles popping, general hysterical joy to celebrate the moment. But unfortunately I knitted the last stitches in the hospital, keeping company for a family member who suddenly fell ill. So it was kind of an anticlimax. But do not worry, everything is going smoothly and he is getting better.

I had already purchased this, to do a diy blocking board. I draw horizontal and vertical lines to the board every 5cm. And that, I tell you, was really a great idea as it helped me a lot to get the stole straight with the pins.







Huivi ei ole täydellinen, mutta kyllä se hyvä on. ;)
Parantamisen varaa olisi reunoissa: ne eivät ole aivan symmetriset, johtuen kevennuksista joista en saanut aivan samannäköisiä. Huivi on nyt 60cm leveä ja 210cm pitkä. Odotan mielenkiinnolla miltä se näyttää kuivana.

The Stole is not perfect but it is good. I think the edging is not quite symmetrical, because I can't get the decreases look exactly the same on the both sides. Now the stole measures 60cm x 210cm.

Bargain-osastolta tarttui mukaan ohutta denim-lankaa hintaan £4.40 / 250g kartio, sekä punnalla kerä alpakka-mohair-akryylisekoitetta (44% alpakka, 44% mohair and 12% akryyli). Aika hyvät hinnat, sanoisin!

Today the mailman made my day! A week ago I ordered some yarn from here. I snatched these yarns from the bargain section. There are two 250g. cones of denim yarn, £4.40 each, and some alpaca-mohair-acrylic mix (44% alpaca, 44% mohair and 12% acrylic), which costs £1.00/50g. A really good deal, don't you think?



Denim-langasta oli eniten täpinässä, mutta se on todella ohutta! Otin vertailun vuoksi kuvan Rowan Denimin kanssa.

I was mos enthusiastic about the denim yarn, but it is really thin. I took a photo with Rowan Denim so you can see the difference.

Stripes and Russian Joins

Aloitin siis vauhdilla Raidallisen HG:n. Raidoittaminen on ihanaa, siihen jää totaalisesti koukkuun! Huomaan aina suunnitelevani ainakin neljä raitaa eteenpäin - no niin nyt teen yhden punainen, ja sitten yksi oliivinvihreä ja sitten vielä farkunsinistä.... ja yhtäkkiä kello on yli yksi (yöllä)!

So I jump-started the Stripy Hourglass Sweater. I love doing the stripes, it is totally addictive. I catch myself planning at least four stripes ahead - now I'll do a red one, then one olive green and after that, a blue one - and suddenly it is 1 a.m.!



Palatte varmaan halusta tietää että toimiiko se "venäläinen liitos". Kyllä se toimii! Eikä ole ollenkaan hankala tehdä. Ainoa ikävä puoli on että liitoskohdasta todellakin tulee hieman paksu. Olen nyt hionut strategiaani seuraavasti: vaihdan väriä toisessa sivussa (tai siis suunnilleen siinä missä sivusauma olisi mikäli sellainen löytyisi) parin kerroksen ajan (=tulee paksumpi ja hieman epäsiisti kohta) ja välillä sitten teen puolitoista kierrosta joko kirkkaan- tai tummanpunaisella, jolloin värien vaihtumiskohta siirtyy toiselle sivulle.

I know you are all dying to know if the russian join works! Well yes! It is actually quite simple to make. But it does make a bit of a bulky spot in the knitting. Now I'm changing the colour on the side of the sweater and in order to prevent excessive bulkiness on one side , every now and then I make one and a half rounds with the red yarn, to start to change the colours on the other side.



Nyt joudun pistämään tämän projektin jäihin ainakin viikonloppuun asti. Huivi pitää tehdä valmiiksi ja mielellään pingottaa tänä viikonloppuna. Pitäkää peukkuja!

Now I have to set this project aside and finish the Print O'the Wave Stole. I hope to block it this weekend. Wish me luck!

The Final Spurt

Päätin lopettaa ruikuttamisen ja ottaa loppukirin. Nyt Print O'the Wave huivi on melkein valmis! Enää puuttuu viimeinen reuna, joka neulotaan sivuttain ja liitetään kerros kerrokselta neuloen keskiosan odottamaan jääneisiin silmukoihin. Ja kyllä: olo on väsynyt mutta onnellinen.

I decided to stop whinig and get going. Now the Print O'the Wave Stole is almost finished! I just have to knit the final edging, which is knitted "sideways" and attached in every row to the live stiches left waiting. And yes: I'm feeling tired but happy!



Huomaatte varmaan että olen neulonut koko huivin suorilla puikoilla. Ai miksi? No siksi että ne viime vuoden puolella Saksasta tilaamani pyöröpuikot eivät ole vieläkään tulleet! Tilaus on jätetty 29.12. ja Visaa laskutettu 5.1. Tietääkseni on joku EU:n pykälä jossa aikarajaksi on asetettu 30 päivää tilauspäivästä laskien. Mutta mitä sanoo saksalainen nainen kun alan pommittamaan häntä sähköposteilla ja sanon että haluan a) rahani takaisin tai b) uuden lähetyksen kuriiripostilla, eli parin päivän sisällä. No hän vastaa minulle seuraavasti:

"your order is gone on 5. januar and unsecure shipments takes a time between 3-8 weeks regular in europe is 3 weeks, so I believe it will come the next few days please do not worry, it will come"

Siis heidän mielestään on ihan normaalia että lähetys Saksasta Portugaliin kestää kuukauden! Herne on nenässä ja tosi syvällä. Tuskinpa enää tilaan kyseistä kaupasta.

You might have noticed that I've been knitting the stole with straight needles. Why is that? It's because the circular addis I ordered at the end of last year still have not arrived! I placed the order in 29.12. and my Visa card was charged 5.2. I have started sending e-mails to them asking a) for a refund or b) them sending me a new order by DHL or similar service. But what does the german woman say? (see quote above). So they think it is completely normal - even obvious - that the shipment takes a month to arrive from Germany to Portugal. I am not pleased and shall never again order from their shop.



Aion palkita itseäni tästä huikeasta tehokkuudesta aloittamalla raidallisen hourglassin tänään. Laskeskelin jo ohjeen silmukkamäärät ohuemmalle langalle.

I am going to reward myself for being so productive in the past few days, and I am going to allow myself to cast on for my stripy Hourglass Sweater today. I have already made the calculations for finer yarn.



Tässä on korillinen Novita Woolia, ja pari hassua jämäkerää Nalle ja Floricaa. Niistä raitaa. Olisi kiva jos olisi vähän räväkämpiä värejä enemmän mukana, mutta en todellakaan aio ostaa lisää lankaa tätä projektia varten. Ihanaa! Uusi työ!

Here's a basketful of various dk yarns to stripe up: Novita Wool, Florica and Nalle. It would be nice to have more of the brighter colours, but there's no way I'm going to buy more yarn for this project. Yippee! A New Project!

I'm losing my faith here, people.

Pläähhhh... tänään ensimmäinen mahdollisuus neuloa pari riviä sitten sunnutain. Tätä vauhtia huivi ei valmistu ikinä. Ja kuriirikin olisi tulossa jo ensi viikolla. Apua.

Blah... today was my first chance to knit a few rows of the stole since sunday. At this speed it will never ever get done. And there is one very personal courier coming here next week to take it up north. Help.

In the last post's comments I was asked to show the side panel of the stole. So here it is, dry blocked.



Eli neulomiset ovat jääneet vähiin, ajanpuutteen vuoksi (etelä-Eurooppalainen luumuilu kostuu työpäivien järjettömällä venymisellä - ai siis mikä vapaa-aika?!). Tästä huolimatta olen käyttänyt tänään kaiken liikenevän ajan tutkimalla uutuuksia: Rowan 39, ja Phildarilta tuli taas jotain (onneksi (!) siellä ei nyt ollut mitään erityistä minulle).

So there has not been much knitting this week due to the lack of time. This has not prevented me from surfing and previewing all the novelties today: Rowan 39 mag and yet a new Phildar magazine are out.



Neuleolympialaiset olisivat ihanat, jos en olisi niin tästä henkilökohtaisesta maratonista hyytynyt. En ehdi palautua ajoissa! Itseasiassa jo ennen tämän neuleolympialaisbuumin alkamista ilahduin huomatessani että tulen olemaan Suomessa talviolympialaisten viimeisen viikon (eihän täällä edes tiedetä mitkä sellaiset kisat ovat!). Ihanaa! Vaikka en kisoihin osallistukaan niin aion neuloa kuin heikkopäinen ja katsoa kaiken taitoluistelusta ampumahiihtoon!

I would love to take part in The Knitting Olympics, but I'm right in the middle of this personal marathon. I think I need some time to rest afterwards and knit stuff without deadlines. Actually I realized even before this collective Knitting Olympics frenzy that I'm going to be in Finland during the last week of The Games and was really pleased (here in Portugal they do not even know There is such thing as the Winter Olympics). I will knit like a lunatic even without being an official participant!
