Central Park Hoodie x scale 0.8

Central Park Hoodie on ollut to knit-listallani jo iät ja ajat, mutta en ikinä saanut sitä aloitettua. Sitten sain idean tehdä siitä pienoismallin! Pienensin alkuperäisohjeen lapselle sopivaksi erittäin tieteellistä metodia käyttäen - vaihtamalla langan ohuemmaksi ja puikot pienemmiksi. Alkuperäinen ohje on aran-vahvuiselle langalle ja 5.5mm puikoille. Minä käytin suunnilleen sukkalangan vahvuista ohutta villalankaa kansinkertaisena ja 4.0mm:n puikkoja. Tämä pienensi mittoja noin 20% alkuperäisen mallin mittoihin verrattuna. Tietääkseni minkä koon mukaisia silmukkamääriä seuraisin, vertasin jotain Phildarin lasten villatakkia jossa oli sama neuletiheys ja katsoin suunnilleen montako silmukkaa siinä luotiin. Valitsin sitten sen mukaan koon. (joka oli muistaakseni toiseksi pienin koko)

I've wanted to knit a Central Park Hoodie for ages, but never got to actually doing it. Then I had an idea to make a smaller model of it. So I knitted one for my daughter, using a highly sofisticated and scientific downsizing formula - switching to thinner yarn and smaller needles. So, instead of aran weight yarn and 5.5mm needles I used two strands of fingering weight yarn and 4.0mm needles. That scaled down the pattern to about 80% of the original. To decide which original size instructions to use, I just compared some Phildar kids pattern with the same gauge and chose the size that had the same number of stitches for the body.



Hihoissa meni vähän pieleen, niistä tuli aluksi aivan liian kapeat. Purin ne ja neuloin uudestaan vähän leveämpinä.

The only part where my system clearly did not work were the sleeves. They were way too narrow at first so I frogged them and knitted them again a bit wider.



Takki on ollut kovassa käytössä. Se on jo kertaalleen nyppyyntynyt, ja kerran nypyt on ajeltu pois. Nyt se on taas kuin uusi. Merinolanka tuntuu joskun nyppyyntyvän kerran ja sen jälkeen pysyvän paremman näköisenä pitkään.

This cardi has gotten a lot of use. It had quite a lot of pilling, which I took off and now it's like new again. I find that happens to merino yarn a lot. It pills once and then stabilizes.

Gift Shawls

I hope you all had a nice Christmas! This year I felt like knitting some shawls for my family and friends, instead of only socks:

Daybreak II

My second (but certainly not last) Daybreak Shawl. I'm not quite sure about the colours in this one. They looked lovely side-by-side in skein, but in the finished shawl they look a bit dull together. The science of colour is everything but exact!

Tässä toinen (mutta tuskin viimeinen) Daybreak. En ole ihan 100% varma tästä väriyhdistelmästä. Vyyhdeillä värit näyttivät sopivan aivan mainiosti yhteen, mutta valmiissa huivissa ne näyttävät vähän jotenkin tunkkaiselta yhdessä. Väriteoria ei ole todellakaan mitään eksaktia tiedettä!

Wool Peddler's Shawl

Well this pattern is a second timer for me, too. Maybe it's the fact that I'm used to knitting socks, and repeating the same pattern twice doesn't strike me as boring. I really like seeing this shawl in red, just like in the book.
I used yarn from two skeins from two different dye lots. I changed the yarn where the lace pattern starts and you really can't notice the difference.

No tämäkin malli on neulottu jo kertaalleen aiemmin... lieko johtuu siitä että olen tottunut sukkia neulomaan, kun voin tehdä näitä huivejakin pareittain ilman että täysin kyllästyn. Punaisena tämä on jotenkin aivan erityisen upea. Käytin tähän kahdesta värjäyserästä lankaa, ja vaihdoin kerää tuossa missä mallineule vaihtuu. Mielestäni värieroa ei huomaa valmiissa huivissa lainkaan, vaikka langoissa oli selvästi eroa.

Stripy dress!

I love this simple dress I made for my daughter, with just two skeins of sock yarn! Yay for skinny six-year olds! The only thing I'm not happy about is the cast on edge, as it rolls up a lot. Knitting this again, I would do a folded hem. All the merit for the yoke decreases belong to Elizabeth Zimmermann!

Olen oikein tyytyväinen tähän pikku mekkoon jonka tein tyttärelle. Ohutta lankaa ei mennyt kuin kaksi kerää (eikä sitä enempää ollutkaan). Ainoa asia mikä vähän kaivelee, on tuo alareuna, se ei millään meinaa pysyä aisoissa vaan tuppaa käpristymään. Jos neuloisin tämän uudestaan, niin tekisin alkuun ihan kunnollisen käännetyn helman. Kaikki kunnia hartiaosan kavennuksista kuuluu Elizabeth Zimmermannille!



I put up simple instruction for the dress. The indications are only for the 6 year old's size, just as I knitted mine. The written istructions can be found on flickr or ravelry.

Laitoin ylös yksinkertaiset ohjeet mekon neulomiseen. Mekko sopii kapoiselle kuusivuotiaalle. Kirjoitetut ohjeet englanniksi löytyy flickristä or ravelrystä.

Daybreak Shawl number one

I really do love stripes. And shawls. So a stripy shawl is as good as it gets! And Colinette Jitterbug turned out to be a perfect yarn for this. I think it doesn't wear well in socks, but is so very soft to skin. Perfect for shawls!

Raidat ovat ihania, ja isot huivit. Eli parasta mitä voi kuvitella on raidallinen huivi. Ja Colinette Jitterbug oli täydellinen lanka tähän tarkoitukseen. Se ei oikein vakuuta minua sukkalankana, koska se nuhjaantuu ennätysnopeasti, mutta on niin kovin pehmeää ihoa vasten. Eli täydellistä huivilankaa!
