Gray Socks, Blue Socks and...

gray socks blue socks white sock

My idea was to show you the whole Project Spectrum gray/blue/white sock trio at the same time, but I just seem to not get the white pair done.... anyway, here are the other two:

Gray Rib and Cable Socks

gray rib and cable socks

pattern: Rib and Cable Socks by Nancy Bush in IK Fall 2005
yarn: Opal, colour n. 21, 60g.
needles: 2,25mm pony rosewood dpns

comments: I have knitted this pattern before, and I just love it. Actually it's the very first of Nancy Bush's patterns I knitted. I love the Welsh heel and the Star toe. Given the überplain gray yarn, these socks were a bit boring to knit, but I think I'll use them a lot.

kommentit: Olen neulonut samalla ohjeella aikaisemminkin yhdet sukat, ja ohje on yksi suosikeistani. Itseasiassa tästä ohjeesta ihastukseni Nancy Bushiin sai alkunsa!

Blue Ellen's Stockings

blue ellens stockings

pattern: Ellen's Stockings by Nancy Bush in Folk Knitting in Estonia
yarn: Opal mit Bambus, colour n. 1427 , 75g.
needles: 2mm and 1,75mm addi steel dpns

comments: I really liked this yarn with the pattern. The yarn has some bamboo in it which gives it a subtle sheen. I had to switch to 1,75 needles before reaching the heel as the sock seemed to be a bit too wide. Even now they are a bit loose. The ribbing detail is really beautiful (see photo below).

Pitsiribbi on kaunis yksityiskohta (kuva alla).

(Now I just have to finish those damned white socks)

I am SO ready for the next Project Spectrum colour batch!

Mahtavat sukat! Mahtavia lankoja! Rib and cablet ovat erityisen i-ha-nat.

All of your socks look so pretty! (Even the lonely white one). And wow! look at all of that PS-friendly yarn! I'll have to root around and get all of mine out and ready, too...

PS: Your fibery treats that begin with Blue and end with Moon Fiber Arts arrived... they'll be shipped off to you imminently!

I always love your socks
They grey may have gotten a little boring to knit after a while, but the finished product isn't! They have an elegant simplicity.
And I'm really intrigued by the 'welsh heel' and the 'star toe'.
That's a really good idea about going down a needle size for the heel, I just knitted my first pair of socks and they're sooo big! Next time I might steal your idea ;)

Ihania sukkia, vielähän tässä kuussa on aikaa valkoisten valmistua..

Upeita sukkia! Kyllä ne valkoisetkin valmiiksi kohta putkahtavat, anna vaan noiden herkullisten värilankojen huilata vielä hetken aikaa.

1.75mm needles... ouch. the socks are all beautiful and though they may be less fun to knit they will perhaps get even more wear than the fancier-coloured ones?

that wollmeise ... ooh ...

Oi mitä ihanuuksia! Miksi minulta puuttuvat juuri nuo Bushin mallit?

Mari said...

carson: thanks! Believe me, once you'll be introduced to the welsh heel and the star toe, you won't want you know about anything else
;-)

kris: i know - it DID hurt a bit. Wollmeise is totally addictive. and I haven't even knitted anything of it yet!

heidi ja jatta: kiitos :-)

outi ja mennahuu: tänään purin hammasta ja vastustin värikkäiden lankojen seireenilaulua! Tadaa - toinen valkoinen sukka on alullaan!

terhi: juu, se on huomattu :-D

piku-kettu: apua, nancyt ovat aika korvaamattomia! laita heti lahjatoivomuslistalle! :-)

I love your enthusiasm! and I love your socks! I really like both of the subtle shades - it will be much brighter through the next two months, won't it? It should correspond well with spring!

Thank you for being part of the fun!

Hi Mari
Thanks for your kind encouragment on my funny socks.
I'm surprised they don't stock Lane Cervinnia in fire-engine red in Portugal of all places! Or am I guilty of cultural stereotyping?
Your socks always look so good, what size needles do you use?

Mari said...

thanks lolly & rebecca!

carson: about lane cervinia: I think I'm like one of the ten people in Portugal who knit socks, so I think they do not sell that much sock yarn here... that might explain the poor colour selection!
:-P
The needles I use vary a lot, for example with that lane cervinia yarn I like to use 2,75mm Bryspun needles, it's like a match made in heaven!
