Phildar Jacket

phildar jacket

pattern: pattern n.19 from Phildar Pitchoun automne-hiver 2006-2006
yarn: Novita Isoveli, colour 270, about 550g (8 years size)
needles: 4,5mm and 5mm

comments: Last tuesday was holiday here and I decided to finally finish the two old UFOs, this jacket and
my sripy blue cardigan (only the buttons are missing! Yeah!).
I really like Phildar patterns for kids. There's not a sloppy sleeve fitting in sight! This one is not the nicest ones I have made, mainly because of the yarn. It is really crappy yarn and I'm already regretting using it. My son really liked this jacket and didn't even give me time to block it. Unfortunately after three days of (intensive) use the jacket is not looking new anymore: there's pilling on the sleeves!
Note to self: never ever buy this yarn again, even if it costs next to nothing!

Argh! Toivottavasti en enää sorru tähän lankaan, vaikka sitä kuinka halvalla saisi!

(I felt so light of baggage after finishing these two old UFOs! (Socks do not count as UFOs in my universe!) I imediately started another shawl from Victorian Lace Today. But I'd like something more colourful, too... have to come up with something soon)

(Tuli ihanan kevyt olo, kun nuo vanhat UFOt on tehty. Sukkiahan ei lasketa. Aloitin seuraavan shaalin Victorian Lace Today kirjasta. Tein yhden mallikerran, enää 29 jäljellä! Nyt kyllä huvittaisi joku vähän värikkäämpikin juttu... täytyy pian keksiä jotain hauskaa)

Melon Pattern Shawl

melon stitch shawl 3

pattern: Melon Pattern Shawl from Victorian Lace Today
yarn: Pirtin Villalanka (100% wool, 360m/100g), colour 306, 200 g (two hanks).
needles: 4mm addi circs (because my ebony circs didn't arrive in time...)
measurements: about 45cm X 180cm

melon stitch shawl 2
Wheee - what's up with the overexposed face? - I look like I had a freaking face lift, there's not a dimple or wrinkle in sight!!!

kommentit: Tämä oli todella helppo malli, sopi mainiosti tv-neuleeksi. Tein simppelimmän version kuin kirjassa jättämällä reunapitisn pois. Pirtin villalanka on ihanaa! Onneksi sitä on lisää toista shaalia varten.

comments: This was a very easy lace pattern, even suitable for tv-knitting! I didn't do the lace edging as I wanted a simpler version. I love this yarn! It's nice to know I have more of it in stash, for another shawl from the same book.

Phildar Cabled Sweater

phildar cabled sweater

pattern: Phildar Pichoun 464 (Fall-Winter 2006-2007)
yarn: Novita Wool (100% merino wool), colour 044
needles: 3mm and 3,5mm addi

comments: I finally finished this sweater! I was starting to worry that it's already too small. There's always that risk when you knit for kids that are still growing. And fast! This is for my son, who's 6,5 years old, but I chose to knit the 8 year old's size (as I find the french sizing for kid's clothes extremely small). The sweater is already in use - that must be the greatest compliment!
(I made a few mistakes with the cables, but I find them quite amusing. Here are two photos of the most obvious ones...)

Happy Shopping

project spectrum sock box 2

Kuten jo eilen mainitsinkin, täydennystä tuli Rohrspatz und Wollmeisesta.

Now my Project Spectrum box is starting to look fuller! As I mentioned yesterday, part of the new sock yarn stash is from Rohrspatz und Wollmeise.

glorious wollmeise sockyarn

I can't put into words how wonderful this yarn is. The colours are unbelievable and it is silky and soft. And smells great, too (Don't you all sniff yarn?). And there's a whole 150g of loveliness in each hank! Let's take a closer look, shall we?

wollmeise veilchen - violet

Tämä väri on nimeltään Veilchen - Orvokki.

This colourway is called Veilchen - Violets.

wollmeise wellensittichvogelfeder - budgerigar feather

Tämä on Wellensittichvogel - Undulaatinsulka. (Luultavasti haluaa isona Pomatomus-sukiksi).

This one is Wellensittichvogelfeder - Budgerigar feather. (I'm so going to knit Pomatomus socks with this one)

wollmeise wilder mohn - wild poppy

Last but not least my own favourite Wilder Mohn - Wild Poppy. But do not wipe the drool off your keyboard yet - there's more!

Tilasin myös yksivärisiä lankoja, Wolhalla-nimisestä hollantilaisesta nettikaupasta. Mainio uusi tuttavuus. Valikoima on hyvä, sivut selkeät, palvelu pelasi ja langat tulivat siististi pakattuina perille. Kuvassa komeilevat Lorna's Laces Bold Red, Opalin Mangonkeltainen (väri 03), Regian Fuchsia (väri 1077), sekä Mustaa (ah) Regia Silk-lankaa (väri 099). Sanoisin, että olo on aika kylläinen.
:-)

I also ordered some solid coloured sock yarn from Wolhalla. This was the first time I used this online shop, and I have to say I was very pleased. They have an ok selection and I was very happy with the service. In the picture you see Lorna's Laces in Bold Red, Opal Mango Yellow (colour 03), Regia Fuchsia (colour 1077) and two skeins of Regia Silk in Black (awwww). Let's say that I feel satisfied.

Almost Speechless

wollmeise package

Tällä hetkellä mieleen tulee vain yksi sana: Wollmeise.
Huomenna täysraportti onnistuneista shoppailuista sekä runsaasti päivänvalossa otettuja lankakuvia.
:-)

Right now only one word comes to mind: Wollmeise.
Tomorrow a full report of happy shopping and plenty of daylight pictures of lovely yarn!

Starting Project Spectrum sock...

ellens stockings WIP

Minulla oli varattuna sinistä Vuorelman Satakieli-lankaa sinisiin sukkiin, mutta käteen tarttuikin SNY:ltä lahjaksi saatu Opalin siniharmaa bambusukkalanka. Malli on Ellen's Stockings (Nancy Bushin kirjasta "Folk Knitting in Estonia", jonka myös sain SNY:ltä!). Auts).

I already had put aside blue Satakieli yarn for a pair of blue socks, but this Opal Bamboo yarn wanted so much to be Ellen's Stockings that I had to choose it! The pattern is by Nancy Bush, from Folk Knitting in Estonia. Both the yarn and the book were gifts from my Secret Knitting Friend a few months ago. I think the grayish blue hue suits this pattern beautifully. My only problem so far is that the sock seem a bit to wide for my foot. So I think I might have to switch to one size smaller needles - and that means 1,75 mm...

orange KoolAided yarn

Värjäilin oransseja sukkia varten lankaa viimeisillä KoolAideillani. Kun edellisellä kerralla tuli vähän laihua väriä, niin ajattelin pistää koko varastoni (kokonaiset 4 pussia) peliin. Lanka on Opalin värjäämiseen tarkoitettua lankaa.

I have been ordering yarn for Project Spectrum lika a madwoman! It has been such a thrill to get yarn in all those colours I wouldn't normally buy! (I hope to have them here next week to be able to show them for you!)

For the orange yarn I wanted to use the four packages of KoolAid I had left (orange and grape illusion) and some Opal undyed sock yarn I bought a long time ago. As in my previous attept the colour came out a bit pale, I wanted to be sure to have a really saturated colour this time. So I wound up only 80 grams to a hank (Which I know is enough for a pair of socks for me) and decided to use all four bags of KoolAid. I dipped one end of the hank in grape illusion, then the other one in orange. The yarn took the colour really fast. In the end I steamed the yarn for a half an hour or so.

I'm really happy with how it turned up, the colour is really quite rich in vitamin C!
